Marble Reserves & Availability : A wide variety of Marbles with different surface appearance is available mostly in Western part of India in states of Rajasthan and Gujarat.

Granite Reserves & Availability : It is an estimate that about 25% of world's total granite deposit is available in India. Maximum concentration of deposits is recorded in Southern Peninsula at Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Recent surveys and findings reveal granite sources in Eastern, Western and North Western India i.e., at Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Orissa.

Rajasthan : Rajasthan is an eminent place in India when it comes to quarrying and mining. Due to its unique landforms, the state has not only a huge reserve of natural stones but also the finest varieties in terms of appearance and pattens. The prominent ones are :

• Marble – Makrana, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Banswara, Jaipur
• Granite
• Sandstone
• Slate stone
• Flaggy Limestones

Andhra Pradesh : Andhra Pradesh has rich reserves of Granite and is the largest producer of the same. Most part of the state have quarries for Granite. Only some of these quarries in the world have deposits of rare and exclusive blue and white granite. The details of the natural stone found in Andhra Pradesh are given as follows :

Tamil Nadu : Tamil Nadu is a prominent place for quarrying in India because of two reasons. First, the state has some finest deposits of granite and other natural stone. Second, it has international seaport with excellent export infrastructure, facilitating an effective shipment for international destinations. The most abundant natural stones in the state are :

• Granite – Black, Blue, White variants

Karnataka : Karnataka has rich deposits of granites in varieties. The textures and colours of the granites available in Karnataka make them very much suitable for ornamental purposes. Famous granite stones extracted from the state include :

• Pink Granite

Other States : Apart from these states Orissa, Gujarat, and Madhay Pradesh are among the major producers of various types of natural stones. The other states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh also have quarries with fair enough deposits of natural stones.

At Arvicon International, we have gained diversified experiences in our journey of 70 years, in the Indian natural stone industry. In the initial days, we invested good sum of money in offering free samples, courier cost etc. But to the contrary, the final result was not profitable rather it hardly tuned any query to a deal. We did not receive any feedback from the parties regarding approval or dis-approval of the samples sent or the price quoted, thus leading to disappointments and discouragement on our part.

With time we decided to modify our sampling practices and started with “paid samples”. Wherein, the customers were required to pay for samples of expensive stones such as Black Galaxy, Sun Mint, etc., and also for the courier charges. For stones that were not very expensive, we are charged the courier cost only or sent the samples through customers’ desired courier or from their account on “to-pay” basis. The results were astonishingly positive. We started receiving quick response from the customers and in most inquiries turns into business. We did good business with the said sample policy.

However, we have amended the above policy to serve our customers, better. Presently, we are charging for samples of very expensive stones along with the courier cost or only courier cost if the products are not very expensive. The cost of aforesaid samples and courier is reimbursed to our esteemed customers once they place their order with us. We ensure that our customers do not suffer the initial sample or courier cost and always receive value-for-money spent.

This revised policy works out very nicely and most of the inquiries turns into business. The win-win situation between both the parties leads to long term business associations and we hope all our esteemed clients will co-operate with us and understand the prima for our customer oriented sample policy.

Benefits For millions of years, layer upon layer of earth’s materials have formed various metamorphic rock layers we now call slate, mica, and sandstone. We also know them as durable stones used for floors and patios cut only with diamond saws then mortared into place and usually grouted along the edges.  Generally easy to work with, but quite heavy and improbable in many applications, these solid stones have been the only practical means of creating that real stone look.  Until now…

Veneer is a lightweight, flexible, colorful and unique stone veneer with unlimited application possibilities. The introduction of this exciting new material addresses a large need for a flexible, adaptable, durable and weather resistant stone veneer.
Green & Sustainable Design Green with Veneer. Transportation cost, fuel and space are saved in normal shipping and handling compared to standard stone or tile products because of its extreme lightweight. Additional savings in packaging materials are an added benefit when compared with stone or tile products.

Veneer is also a Sustainable Product by utilizing only what is needed from the stone quarry. Because of the unique manufacturing process, each sheet represents just a thin layer of the natural stone.

Stone Veneer can be used the same way thin laminate type products are used. It will bend to a minimum radius depending on the stone color or type before cracking. With the assist of heat smaller radii can be achieved. Testing should always be done prior to any natural stone veneer installation. It can be arched or bent inward or outward to meet a given look or architecture. Fiberglass strand are used in the makeup of Stone Veneer which gives it strength and flexibility.

Installation can be easily done using many of the basic tools used in most tile work.

Prior to application it is best to clean, brush, and degrease any surface of dust or oils. Depending on the adhesive used, it may be necessary to prep the back of the Stone Veneer by sanding or scuffing the back to expose the fiberglass. Some adhesives may require the use of solvents or recommended primer by the adhesive manufacturer.

Time spent preparing the work area will pay off in a job well done. Preparation of the area to be covered and the layout of the veneer sheets is the same as for natural stones or tiles. A preliminary dry fit of veneers allows for arrangements and orientation of individual sheets, patterns, textures, and colors before final placement. It is recommended that each sheet be dry fit exactly where it will be placed on all surfaces. Numbering the sheets to track relocation before cutting and trimming will save you time. 

Veneer can be also be used to create a tiled effect by leaving a grout joint between cut pieces. Sheets may also be butt joined for a minimal seam look. Due to the thin nature of the sheets a narrower grout joint will produce better results.

Test show the use of water based epoxy grouts work well to fill between the cut veneers. These epoxy grouts are also available in several colors to match the desired décor. On final clean up with a sponge, the epoxy will also seal and fill the Veneer surface. If desired a deeper grout joint can be achieved by removing material just under the grout joint area.

Stone Veneer can be sealed with the same sealers used for slate, stone tiles, and wood. There are many sealers on the market with various recommended applications. Please test any sealer for the desired luster and penetration required prior to installation.

Veneer can be cut with tin snips, a metal shear, wet saw, or table saw with carbide blade. Cutting curves is best done using long nosed tin snips.

Precautions must be taken when working with Veneer due to the fiberglass composition of the backing materials. ALWAYS use the proper type gloves, goggles, and dust mask when cutting. When using a saw ALWAYS be sure to take proper precautions to cover skin, eyes and lungs from fiberglass dust. When cutting, properly filter equipment exhausts when cutting with saws, grinders, or sanders.

AVOID BREATHING SILICA DUST. This product when cut, drilled, or abraded produces dust containing Free Silica which may cause cancer or delayed lung injury (Silicosis) if inhaled. Work outdoors, in a well ventilated area, or use mechanical ventilation.

Know your adhesives; by understanding the specifics of any adhesives, much time and cost can be saved. All adhesives should be tested prior to any installation including consideration of moisture and temperature in the planned environment. If the application is outdoors, consideration to thermal expansion should be taken into account. Since the sheets is only a veneer it must expand and contract the same as the substrate or delamination may occur. Where adhesive primers are recommended the bond should be test by the installer before final installation.

• Premixed grout and tile adhesive
• Acrylic copolymer based tile adhesive
• Polyurethane wood glues and PU construction grade adhesives
• Wood, parquet, and outdoor carpet adhesives
• Thick latex or acrylic latex type tile adhesive (use only where air drying can take place)
• Epoxy
• Silicone (with primer only)
• Construction grade multi-purpose adhesive, Liquid Nails type.
• Polyester based gap filler putty (Bondo type products)

The back of veneers may require a filler type adhesive for some applications. The polyurethane wood glues work quite well for most applications to board materials by foaming slightly to fill gaps. These materials are not recommended for high moisture or wet application. For wet environments epoxies would be the best candidate. Contact adhesives are not recommended due to the uneven backing or Veneers.

A hand roller is recommended to remove air between sheet and substrate. To properly roll out trapped air start in the middle of a sheet while firmly rolling out towards the edge. Do not press too hard while rolling as this may cause too much adhesive to push out. Proper back-filling and good rolling techniques will result in a solid hard surface. Do not use non-catalyzing (water vapor type) cure adhesives where the substrate is a moisture barrier. Non-catalyzing adhesive will not cure properly if applied between non-porous materials.

This project involved covering an old door with Silver Shine Veneer. Proper surface prep is important. The surface was sanded and brushed clean before the Veneer was installed Veneer is laid out and cut with sheet metal shears. Cutting is simple because of its thin, flexible nature. Note the back of the material is scribed with a knife.
Adhesive is applied with a toothed trowel. This project used heavy-duty construction adhesive. Note some construction adhesives foam when moisture is present. Clamps can be used to prevent separation or swelling. A roller is used to press down the surface. Start from the middle to push air out towards the edges. Care must be taken not to push the adhesive out, or an air gap may form.Note the grout lines have been cleaned with a scraper and filled with grout. Door knob and dead bolt holes have been cut with a hole saw. 

Veneer can be used for flooring with the proper adhesive and application techniques.  Since itis not a thick solid stone it is not recommended for high traffic areas.  It can be used for low traffic flooring areas such as residential bathrooms or where wet traction is required.  Some colors of Veneer offer better traction than others.  For example Silver Shine or Jeera Green will have more texture then some of the other softer slate colors. Sealers will have an effect on the traction of the surface of each color.  Therefore, it is recommended that various sealers be tested prior to final installation when considering it for flooring. 

For new installations Veneer is best adhered over most standard subfloor materials such as cement board, and backer board usually in the ½” to ¼” thickness range. Using a layer of cement board or backer board over wood floors will result in a more solid feel to the finished floor. 

Veneer will also offer a protective resilient surface inherent with the stone face and fiberglass backing.  This can further help with crack prevention in some cases.

Concrete and masonry substrates must be at least 28 days old. Hydrostatic pressure conditions and vapor transmission cannot exceed 3 lbs. per 1,000 sq. ft. (1,36 kg per 92,9 m2) per 24 hours using a calcium chloride test.

OVER EXISTING TILE SAVES TIME AND MONEY. Since you don’t need to remove the tile, you can simply adhere Veneer over it. You will also save time and labor by not renovating what tile there is. As long as the tile is sound why remove it? With this type of resurfacing you can reduce the environmental impact of a total renovation AND keep the existing plumbing. Most standard brand name plumbing fixtures now have remodel kits which allow you to only change the fixtures, not the interior plumbing; another time saver.

Stripping and priming the existing tile assures a good bond. The primer used here is “Gripper” by Glidden®. We found it to be a good primer where you want the maximum adhesive bond.

Pre-fitting and numbering the sheets will help with installation as shown here. Here, each sheet was cut to fit and was numbered before installation.

Premium Polyurethane Construction Adhesive was used here since it cures without evaporation. A non-evaporative adhesive is required when applying between two sealed surfaces.

A 3/16” notched trowel is used to distribute the construction adhesive evenly. The same adhesive must be buttered to the back of the sheets before rolling.

A large roller is then used to apply the Veneer to the tile. Only light pressure is needed to remove air bubbles. Too much roller pressure will leave air gaps.
